Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Lois J. McFarland entered into the arms of our Lord on September 27, 2016 at the young age of 93, on the cusp of her 94th birthday.
She was born on October 8, 1922 in Tacoma, WA to Mattie and Clarence Johnson. She was the oldest of two children, Lois and Eva Johnson. Lois attended school in Tacoma and graduated from Lincoln High School. She attended Knapps Business College and her first job was with Weyerhaeuser. Lois went on to work for the City of Tacoma for over 20 years in the Photo and Reproduction department. At the age of 60, she entered into the real estate business and obtained her real estate license. She was a phenomenal cook and pies were her specialty.
In 1941 she married Arthur E. Sheehan and had two children, Colleen and Michael.
Lois had many talents and abilities. She was an accomplished organist and played for hours singing with her grandchildren, one of their favorites was "It's A Small World." She also played the piano, and was a natural when came to painting. But she was especially known for her beautiful quilts. Each quilt was sewn with love and it could be seen in every stitch. She made numerous quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her retirement years, she made hundreds of baby quilts that she lovingly donated to Salmon Creek Legacy hospital.
Our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother was loved by many. She was preceded in death by husbands Arthur Sheehan, Burdette Sterling and Eugene McFarland, son, Michael Sheehan and sister Eva Rambeck.
She is survived by her daughter Colleen Engstrom (Holger); grandchildren Carla White, Aaron Engstrom (Sheila) and Ansen Engstrom; great grandchildren Kelsie, Lexie, Aaron and Arika Engstrom.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11 am at Piper-Morley Funeral Home at 5436 S. Puget Sound Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98409. A reception will follow.
