Obituary of George John Grazzini

GEORGE J. GRAZZINI, JR. "Remember me as I am, not as I will be" On September 26, 2014 George quietly gave up his valiant fight against ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease, while his sister Rose was holding his hand. We miss him: His Sister Rose, his brother-in-law Dennis Reeve, niece Decia (Charles) Woods, great nephews Tyler and Hunter, cousins, friends, and, our Mom, Mary. His sister, however, will miss him the most; especially the hour long phone calls once a week, and, these last months, texting all day. My brother was born on December 14, 1943, graduated from Wilson High School in 1962 and was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1966. He served on the USS Fletcher with tours in Pearl Harbor, Japan, Australia and Viet Nam. He retired from Madigan Army Medical Center Facilities Engineer Division in December 2006. It was, he said; time to begin spending more time doing the things he enjoyed: camping, hiking, poking around in thrift shops, meeting new friends, and especially travelling to Spain and Italy. George never met a stranger, everyone became his immediate friend. Early this spring, knowing his time was getting close; George told me he had a few more things to do. This included completing the restoration of his 1930 Model A Ford, which, with many, many hours of help from Andy Pelton, was finished in June. He also wanted to see Tyler graduate from high school this June; and celebrate his Mom's 98th birthday in August with numerous family and friends. His bucket list was complete. The Funeral service to celebrate George's life will be at 1:00 PM, October 3, 2014, at Piper Morley, 5436 S Puget Sound Ave, Tacoma, 253-472-3353. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with the US Navy Honor Guard. Death is his victory, he is no longer suffering and is free to walk and, most importantly, talk again. Rest well, my brother, we will met up again. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Association Evergreen Chapter
