Denis Louis Marten was born on October 1, 1925 in Delmont, South Dakota; His parents were Ludwig & Anna Marten. He was the oldest son of three children, His sister Bertha Schienpiene (Deceased), and Ruth Terrill. Denis was a devoted father of three children: Michael (deceased), Paul, and Jenny. His grandchildren include Justin Patterson,Thaddeus Hinton, Michelle McQuiller, Micha Marten, Traci Thompson, Vashon Marten, Amanda Buzzard, April Buzzard, Geneva Thompson, and Arianna Buzzard. and a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives

Denis was raised on a farm, focused around agriculture, and farming. He lived by the value of a hard day’s work, in a time where your hand shake was your bond. Denis lived by those values which helped him to prosper and succeed in life.
In 1948 he met his soulmate Geneva Delahhaussaye , the love of his life. He married her on October 6th, 1948. Their love was so strong the generational views of the times could not deter the passion they had for each other. This deep love carried them through all their trials and tribulations. He was a dedicated and loving husband. If she needed it, she got it. They had a love that stood the test of time for 40 years. He survived Geneva by 30 years whom he expressed his undying love to her even in his last hours.
Denis was a veteran, He fought in the Korean War and did civil service work for over 29 years with the U.S. Army. Due to his upbringing, and time in the military, he consistently produced more than was required of the standard and his finished work was of excellent quality. Denis was not only a valuable asset to the maintenance support vehicle section, Denis’s performance of duty reflected most favorable upon himself, the command and the United States Army. He was a friend to many, a teacher to some, and a mentor to others
Having a long and prosperous life, he fulfilled his destiny here on Earth. God called him home into his loving arms on Saturday, December 29, 2018.
Funeral Mass will be held on January 16, 2019 at 12:10 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, 710 S 13th St, Tacoma, WA 98405. Graveside at Calvary Cemetery to follow.
